Sir Simon Burns MP backs Beating Bowel Cancer campaign
Commenting on his support for the campaign to lower the age of screening from 60 to 50 for bowel cancer, Sir Simon said:
‘The facts about bowel cancer are startling; it is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer and statistics show that diagnosis at an early stage (Stage 1) offers a 97% survival rate, as opposed to 7% if diagnosed at a late stage (Stage 4).
Statistics show that early diagnosis saves lives and that is why I fully support lowering the age for automatic screening for bowel cancer from 60 to 50. I have written to the Public Health Minister, Nicola Blackwood MP, urging the Government to make this change which could help save thousands of lives.’
